In place of Ian Bonnell, who was due to speak about supermassive stars, Martin Barstow will be talking about white dwarfs, the shrunken remains of stars like the Sun. The continuing cold weather across Europe has prevented Ian Bonnell from travelling to England this week from Bordeaux where he is currently working.
Martin Barstow, Professor of Astrophysics and Space Science at the University of Leicester, is one of the country's most distinguished space scientists. In his talk, titled "White Dwarfs – the end of the line", he will look at the physics of these hot and superdense objects that are the end point of the evolution of stars like the Sun. Martin is a leading expert on white dwarfs and we are very grateful to him for stepping in at short notice.
Martin will be speaking in Session 2, at 15.05. Ticket purchasing information can be found here.
